Flavoursome Middle Eastern restaurants, Chinese eateries and burger joints are staples in Melbourne, but it’s time to get a little adventurous with Russian cuisine. More than just a shot of vodka, Russian cuisine offers plenty of delicious flavours and, nowhere better, than Melbourne’s best Russian restaurant, Nevsky.

Also making our list as one of the Most Quirky and Unique Dining Experiences in Melbourne, Nevsky, named after the famous main boulevard of Saint Petersburg, promises the delights of Russia with traditional fare and the culinary extravagance of the Tsars.

This Russian eatery found in the suburbs of Elsternwick, has a low-key affair reminiscent of a family dinner, with hearty wooden tables and centred around a delightful open fireplace sure to keep you warm in the winter months.

At Nevsky Russian Restaurant, you’ll be served a selection of Russian classics, including plenty of caviar, Stroganoff (creamy veal and mushroom casserole), and succulent Svinina (oven-roasted pork loin). Those on an empty stomach should definitely consider one of the many European-style share menu banquets, serving up a wide selection of Nevsky’s best dishes.

With three banquets to choose from, the most decadent has to be the Hermitage. Named after the famed St Petersburg museum, this five-course meal includes a seafood platter, cold entree, hot entree, main course of duck legs and rack of lamb, as well as a classic Russian dessert to cap off the evening. Setting you back $68 per person, this is a must for anyone wanting to get a little more Slavic in their diet.

Better yet, RedBalloon is offering a 10-course degustation at Nevsky for two for only $195. Expect Red Caviar, Atlantic Salmon and Duck Legs as part of the feasting journey, which includes a selection of three different vodkas to taste, with a pre-dinner cocktail to get your stomach and mind in the mood.

Though of course, it wouldn’t be a Russian restaurant without everyone’s favourite clear liquor. Fully licensed, Nevsky will impress with their range of premium and house-flavoured vodkas, cocktails, wines and imported beers.

So, if you are looking for a taste of Russia in Melbourne, look no further than Nevsky, one of the best Russian restaurants in Melbourne.
