As the sun set over Camperdown, we approached Acre Eatery; a farm-to-table dining experience located within the Camperdown Commons. Acre Eatery is passionate about creating a consciousness around the effect of everyday food choices, and they execute this in an extremely aesthetic space.

Acre Eatery supports and partners with a small collection of local farmers and producers who are passionate about their produce and who make sure that the animal proteins they use are ethically reared. Acre Eatery not only focuses on an organic farm-to-table approach, but also makes sure to select in-season Australian fruits and vegetables, and not necessarily the pretty ones.

With this knowledge in our pockets, as we were led to our seats in Acre Eatery, we were excited to see what they had in store for us, and boy, the excitement only grew as each course was brought out. To start, for entree, we ordered the local burrata with heirloom tomato, basil, black olive and olive oil ($22). The burrata was perfect and creamy and the tomatoes were a welcomed surprise to each bite. The freshness and acidity of the tomatoes contrasted the creaminess of the cheese.

For mains, we chose the chicken pot pie, pancetta, mushroom, spring onion mash, braised greens ($32). The pastry was crisp, the chicken was perfect and the mash and greens were delicious sides. The mash in particular blew us away, and this is coming from some serious potato-enthusiasts! We were also lucky enough to try the Kobe wagyu rump steak (300g), roast confit garlic butter, ($39) which was tender, tasty and had a gorgeous smoky flavour. The mains were hearty and wholesome, and definitely reinforced how farm-to-table and local sourcing of produce is beneficial in both taste and authenticity.

Dessert came lucky last and was distinctly different from what a typical restaurant offers. When it was offered, we were in disbelief, as the most important meal of any occasion was then brought to us on a dessert trolley, which was topped with the stuff from our wildest dreams – any persons happy place (but most certainly ours). From here we chose a classic option, the Lemon Meringue which can only be described as exquisite, fresh and lovely.

Camperdown’s Acre Eatery is an immensely beautiful place to sit, talk and of course, eat. The rustic furnishings create an inviting, homely atmosphere for guests which is then complimented perfectly by the spectacular food. The service was exemplary as we were left feeling nurtured and most definitely fulfilled. Acre Eatery is the perfect place for an intimate meal, a group get-together or even an event, and there’s not many places that can claim all three.
