These scenic flights to Antarctica are taking the freeze off international travel…

If you thought the next time you’d be taking off abroad was a distant dream, then think again.

In one of the coolest business pivots of the pandemic so far, Qantas services are being chartered courtesy of Antarctica Flights to give Aussies a once-in-a-lifetime birds-eye view of the icy continent.

Modern-day antarctic explorers will be able to embark on a Qantas Boeing 787 Dreamliner from Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth or Brisbane. The journey will take approximately 12.5 hours, but the awe-inspiring icebergs and snowy sheets will be visible from the three-hour mark. The flight then crosses over the South Magnetic Pole and stunning bergs, floes and peaks.

Each trip may take a different route over the continent as the pilot takes into account the different conditions to ensure you experience the best views and variety of scenery. Flights are technically domestic, so you won’t even need your passport to board.

“It really is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit Antarctica in a day,” Antarctica Flights’ CEO Bas Bosschieter told 7News. “I personally think it’s the best answer to the question ‘What did you get up to on the weekend? Just popped down to Antarctica’.”

Experts on the frozen continent will be onboard to educate flyers on the environment below them, which will be accompanied by video screenings. Plus, in order to help preserve this stunning continent, each flight is offset to remain carbon neutral.

Prices start at $1199 per person for an economy seat over the wing, while big spenders will splurge $7999 for the top-tier ‘business class deluxe’ seats.

There will be seven flights between November to February when the continent boasts the best weather, including a New Years Eve experience from Melbourne or the perfect way to celebrate Valentine’s Day taking off from Adelaide.
