The Ritz will be screening cult classics like Blade Runner, Scarface and Lord of the Rings.

Randwick’s Ritz Cinema has been a hallmark of Sydney’s international cinema culture since it first opened its doors in 1937. But with viewers flocking to online streaming services like Stan, Netflix and Foxtel Now, this institution is cleverly hitting back with a tonne of marathon screenings and 2K remastered screenings of cult classics because nothing beats watching your favourite film on the big screen, except watching your favourite trilogy on the big screen.

All three Lord of the Rings will screen Sunday 24 September and this 754-minute screening will only set you back $20-$25.

The Ritz will also have Studio Ghibli fans covered with screenings of over ten films from August 25 to September 17. The Studio Ghibli classic Howl’s Moving Castle will be showing on September 15 and 16, while Spirited Away will screen September 8 and 9. All screenings of Ghibli films will be in Japanese with English subtitles.

Ridley Scott fans can also revisit the original dystopic world of Blade Runner on September 29 before Blade Runner 2049 is released in October, with tickets starting from $15.

The Ritz’s Classic Hollywood Series is almost over, with just one more screening on September 17 (North by North West), with tickets starting from $5 per person. Brian de Palma’s Scarface will also be screening in a remastered 2K version on September 8 and 10.

With an art deco exterior demanding attention, a mezzanine level dedicated to a cocktail bar and an authentic feature cinema to put all others to shame, the Eastern Suburbs has been blessed with a venue to bring them not only the latest films, but all our cult favourites in the highest quality.
