The sold-out, record- and ground-breaking, critically acclaimed West End production is coming to Melbourne.

From Wednesday 3 July, Melbourne’s Comedy Theatre will be featuring one of Broadway’s newest and most up-lifting musicals for their exclusive Australian premiere.

We introduce you to Come From Away. A true-story musical that encapsulates the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks. Described as irresistible, inspiring, uplifting, moving and life-affirming, Come From Away depicts the story of how 38 planes with nearly 7,000 passengers from over 100 countries were redirected to Gander, Newfoundland, almost doubling the population of this remote Canadian town.

Based on the incredible real-life events in the wake of the 2001 tragedy, Come From Away showcases the generosity and hospitality the small community of Gander extended to the “come from aways”. Into their homes and hearts, the production captures the inspirational story of hope and humanity through an impressive, theatrical feel-good musical.

Nominated for nine Oliver Awards, Come From Away features an impressive cast who have previously worked in Disney India’s Beauty and the Beast, Kinky Boots, Wicked, Les Miserables, My Fair Lady, The Dressmaker, Muriel’s Wedding, Priscilla Queen of the Dessert and The Rocky Horror Show.

This global success story is directed by Tony Award winner Christopher Ashley, the book, music and lyrics by David Hein and Irene Sankoff and choreographed by Kelly Devine, whose previous work includes Rock of Ages and Diana.

Come From Away is produced by Junkyards Dog Productions and Rodney Rigby, who are dedicated to developing and producing original musicals, to which this musical is no exception. On top of this, Come From Away has a remarkable list of achievements including a Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical, winner of five Outer Critics Circle Awards, including Outstanding New Broadway Musical, and three Drama Desk Awards, including Outstanding Musical.

With cultures clashing and nerves running high, Come From Away showcases how uneasiness turned into trust, gratitude grew into enduring friendships and the true power of music.
