Perths Best Korean BBQ
Korean BBQ is the foodie craze taking the world by storm – widely loved for being cheap, delicious and BYO friendly. Here’s a guide to DIY dining at its finest.
Recommended Dish: Eight Flavoured Pork-Belly
Ideal for big groups, Palsaik Namoo offers an impressive menu with a vibrant atmosphere and decor to match. Their eight flavoured Pork-Belly is a signature must-try. The presentation of this dish is impeccable; the pork is rolled and served in a wooden tray with their flavours labelled: garlic, curry, wine, miso, bulgogi, pepper and chilli. They also offer free kimchi refills!
Recommended Dish: The $16 Korean Chicken Wings
Gami is a popular Korean BBQ joint located in the CBD specialising in all things chicken. Where else can you snag a dozen gourmet chicken wings for $16?! They offer four complimentary special sauces with their chicken, and the recommended lemon spicy sauce is a delicious accompaniment to the meal. Great service, food and beer at a very agreeable price.
Arirang Korean BBQ
Recommended Dish: YukgaeJang (Spicy Beef Soup)
Famous for being Perth’s best Korean BBQ, Arirang is definitely worth the visit. A standout entree on their menu is the Seafood Pancake, which is light and well-cooked. The staff-recommended YukgaeJang for the main course, and it’s not disappointing – the broth is pleasantly spicy & not too overwhelming, the overall experience of the dish tantalises the taste buds. Bookings are recommended to ensure you don’t miss out!
Recommended Dish: Marinated Wagyu Beef
An ideal late-night hangout, SUNBBQ is a bustling Korean BBQ offering an impressive menu. The wagyu beef is a stand-out and comes beautifully presented, and coated in a rich, tangy marinade. The set menus are great value, and sides/sauces are free (and generously portioned).
Poppo Korean & Japanese
Recommended Dish: Dolsot Bibimbap (Korean Mixed Rice)
Poppo Korean & Japanese is Asian-fusion done brilliantly, offering a huge menu selection, cheap eats, lunch specials, quick service, and complimentary tea. The Sashimi, Dolsot Bibimbap and sweet crispy chicken taste surprisingly authentic for the price. While the ambience may be a little lacklustre, don’t let that deter you. The food is awesome.
K TOWN Restaurant
Recommended Dish: Cold Steamed Pork Trotter
K Town offers authentic Korean fare at bargain prices. Highlights on the menu include the Army Stew, Kimchi Pancake and Cold Steamed Pork Trotter – which tastes much better than it sounds. Their kimchi is also deliciously unique – it’s not the prepared fermented type typically found in most Korean restaurants. It’s BYO too, so be sure to bring along your favourite beer, wine or soju.
Goong Korean BBQ Restaurant
Recommended Dish: Samgyupsal (Pork-Belly).
Situated at Majestic Quay on East Perth’s riverside, Goong Korean BBQ is ideal for a romantic night out, featuring live music to set the relaxed atmosphere. The interior is clean and elegant, and the staff wear Hanbok which is a lovely touch. The beef set menu and Samgyupsal are both delicious. The prices are a little higher than usual here, but the attentive staff and wonderful food make it worth every cent. Bonus points for free and secure parking out front.
