Australia, take a good look in the mirror because you and your dog may just have more than a love of naps in common.

You’ve heard of human doppelgängers – you know, those friends or family who look almost identical to a person we may have accidentally bumped into. But, have you ever seen a human and their dog look weirdly alike? Turns out it’s more common than we think.

And Japanese professor and psychologist, Sadahiko Nakajima, proves just that. His study of human and animal relationships ultimately distinguishes that (often without realising) humans look for physical features and personality traits that resemble themselves in dogs.

But before you flood your camera roll with dozens of pictures trying to catch the perfect selfie of you and your pooch (we’re sure you’ve got hundreds already), we’ve got some paw-fect news to share: Amazon has launched their very own human and dog doppelgänger competition.

To celebrate the launch of Pet Profiles, Amazon Australia has partnered with Georgia Love for us dog-loving Aussies to enter the ultimate dogg-elgänger competition. Their goal? To find the pet and paw-rent duo that look the most alike. Plus, the winning pet receives a whopping $1000 Amazon gift card, a professional shoot to improve their existing Pet Profile and of course bragging rights for when their photos are shared across Amazon.com.au as the king, or queen of Amazon’s Pet Profiles.

Just think of how many squeaky toys that this would buy them!

Amazon’s newest Pet Profile feature launched mid-July this year and now allows users to create a hub for their furry friends so owners can browse through a range of personalised product recommendations and score discounts on pet-friendly items from Australia’s favourite pet brands such as Hill’s Science Diet, Pedigree, Supercoat, Greenies and many more. Plus, eligible customers will be gifted a $10 off voucher on their dog’s birthday month to go towards their next pet-friendly purchase.

Matt Furlong, Amazon Australia country manager said, “Aussies love their pets so we are excited to give Australian pet owners another way to demonstrate the love that they have for them. With the launch of Pet Profiles, Amazon Australia is hoping to make it easier for pet owners to find product recommendations personalised to the needs and preferences of their pets.  This is just another way for Aussies to spoil their pets and access savings in doing so.”

Of course all pet owners – whether that be of cats, dogs, horses, goats, pigs, fish, reptiles, birds, guinea pigs and everything in between – are welcome to enter the Amazon look-alike competition. To enter, all you need to do is create an Amazon Pet Profile and then upload your best look-alike pet and paw-rent doppelgänger pictures publicly to Instagram using the hashtag #AmazonPetsAU . The competition closes 11:59pm Wednesday 29 July 2020.

So if your pooch looks just like you, or you know someone who looks weirdly similar to their pet, be sure to enter. Just say cheese, you know your dog will love it!

Tip: To capture the ultimate undisturbed photo of your dog, hold up their favourite toy towards the lens of the camera, your dog will be excited and look exactly where he or she needs to be – this will help capture the best shot every time.
