The Flour Factory
The Flour Factory is set in a 100-year-old converted flour mill than spans over three storeys, conveniently situated in the CBD. They stock over one hundred gins and an impressive range of tonics which their knowledgeable staff happily talk you through. Patrons are literally spoilt for choice with the extensive gin range, so the “spin the wheel” lucky dip at $10 is a fun and a reasonably priced way to try different gins and takes away the pressure of decision making. Frisk. Small Bar is an approachable, unpretentious joint with concrete flooring and street art on the walls offering a plethora of gin-based beverages. The service is impeccable with the staff recommending mixers and pairings to satisfy your preferences. A bit on the pricier side, Bar Lafeyette is a swanky venue that blends vintage charm with a modern menu. The service is prompt and professional, with their wait and bar staff well-versed on menu items. Even more impressive is that they make their own vermouth, which adds a unique touch to their drinks. A stunning venue with great ambience, The Standard is a well-loved establishment for good reason. The drinks list is extensive and well-priced, boasting an impressive gin-based cocktail selection. Their housemade punch contains a very generous amount gin and is quite literally a knock-out (you’ve been warned). For such a busy venue, there is plenty of seating available and their tables are set up spaciously so customers don’t feel crammed in. A dimly-lit old-fashioned bar that offers the perfect mix of classy and cool. Subtly located in a basement on the otherwise heaving St Georges Terrace offering a chilled-out refuge, there is a speakeasy feel to Bobeche – being there feels like you’ve stumbled back in time to the prohibition era. Lot Twenty is three different dining experiences in one. The first is the restaurant on the ground floor of the heritage building. The kitchen is open to the diners which allows customers to see chefs at work. The downstairs bar has an array of cocktails and wine – this is where Lot Twenty gets its atmosphere. The small bar inside expands to a further terraced area with a cute water feature with seating and tables for drinking outside – perfect for a summer’s evening. ‘The Kingfisher’ is a must try on the cocktail menu; a gin-based cocktail that tastes like a pavlova in a glass.
