What’s On: Melbourne In June
Brrrr, it’s getting cold now. And you know what that means? Well, for one, the prices of jackets will skyrocket! But it also means plenty more indoor activities to warm you up or the occasional outdoor event where you get to show off your winter wardrobe.
The Naked Magicians
What’s better than a magician pulling a rabbit out of a hat? Well, a naked magician pulling a rabbit out of a hat, of course! For those who aren’t too delicate or innocent, feast your eyes on a duo who prefer to perform in the nude. For two nights only, ticketholders will be treated to an “R-rated” show, bringing new meaning to “now you see it, now you don’t”
On the north-western outskirts of Melbourne lies Yarra Valley’s Chocolaterie & Ice Creamery, and will host one of the most indulging mini festivals for anyone with a sweet tooth. Chocolate brownies of all shapes and sizes, with all sorts of colours laden upon, will be ripe for the picking in late June at this cafe. And, for the ultimate tasting, spend $18 and taste all sorts of brownies while sipping on cocoa tea.
WinterGlow at Boneo Maze
While it is nippy outside, it doesn’t meant you can’t explore it in the evenings. And with mini golf, mazes, a vintage carousel and plenty of illuminating lighting fixtures, WinterGlow at Boneo Maze is something for everyone – provided they wear a coat and scarf. There’s also food and drink, including wine for the lovey-dovey couples or the stressed-out parents. It’s also on the Queen’s birthday long weekend, so you can afford to tipple!
Melbourne Food and Wine Festival
With the onset of winter, it’s only natural to warm up your loins with good wine and good food. And where better than at this gastronomical conglomeration of Australia’s best kept culinary experiments. Presented by Citi, this three-day culinary adventure will tickle your tastebuds while warming up your innards as the food and wine courses through your soul.
At Last: The Etta James Story
The queen of soul, the legend of blues, and the goddess of vocal performance will forever live in the memories of those who enjoyed her music. And if you’re in Melbourne this June, you’ll get the perfect opportunity to relive the memories and feel her soul once more. Vika Bull evokes the turbulent life of the Etta James.
And Luke turned to Gandalf and said, “So I assume, my lord, you’re here to bend the knee.” If you get all three references, and if you’re in Melbourne this June, you may be interested in Oz Comic-On. Cosplay to your hearts desire, my mortal friends. And may it be the best Comic-On ever.
Melbourne International Jazz Festival
Get your groove on this June and head out to some of many jazzy events around Melbourne. Capture the soulful instrumental sounds in some of Melbourne’s spectacular venues. Check out who’s making waves in the world of jazz and sample some longstanding legends. But be quick to book your tickets. Some events are starting to sell out!
Were you one of those people making a healthy new years resolution and have now realised you haven’t done anything healthy this year? Well, now is the time to catch up, girl! Head over to the MindBodySpirit Festival and rekindle with your inner self. And best of all? It’s free entry if you send through your email address. But pack some cash, being healthy isn’t cheap.
St Petersburg Ballet: Swan Lake
It’s one of the modern blockbuster ballet shows, even making itself into a movie, and this theatre production is making its way to the Princess Theatre. It tells a love story that either ends in tragedy or triumph, depending on the performance. And this particular production is receiving international critical acclaim.
MoMA at National Gallery of Victoria
