It’s hard to believe that school holidays are already upon us.

Whether you’re working through the holidays, have time off to spend with the kids or just want some ideas to keep them out of the house while your napping, we’ve rounded up some fantastic ideas to keep the young ones preoccupied during the school holiday break (NSW, Perth & Adelaide from April 14 to 29).

Arty Farty Garden Party

Royal Botanic Gardens’ Garden Art Month is on this April and the kids are in for a real treat. The Arty Farty Garden Party will run over two weeks and offers up garden hat workshops, scavenger hunt challenges, paper making and lemon myrtle fruit punch workshops. Kids entry costs $20 for a 2 and a half hour session.

Easter School Holiday Kids Pasta Workshop

After eating their weight in chocolate for Easter, there’s a new overeating-extravaganza for the kids. The pasta connoisseurs at Flour Eggs Water are passionate about sharing their love of the Italian staple and are offering up their skills for a Pasta Workshop. Teaching the little ones everything from how to create pasta from scratch, kitchen etiquette and the advantages of eating seasonally, Eugenio Maiale will guide your kids through a 3-hour hands-on experience and will provide a 2-course pasta lunch, a Flour Eggs Water apron and a pack of freshly made pasta to take home.

Bioblitz Sydney Park – Free

An immersive and fun event for kids and adults alike, Bioblitz is an annual event that helps the Sydney community gain an understanding of the flora and fauna within Sydney Park. A perfect way to kick off the first school holidays of the year, Bioblitz begins on the night of April 13 where kids can help observe and take note of microbats alongside experts with the use of echometers and torches. From 10am on Saturday, the Bioblitz events will continue with a water bird survey, a jungle bike safari, reptile survey, Aboriginal culture tour and a pollinator survey. Best of all, this event is completely free.

School Holidays Kite Workshop – Free

As a part of the Craft @ Cathedral Square series, kids from all over are invited to this free kite-crafting workshop. An all-day event, kite-crafting is the perfect way to encourage kids to get outside for a few hours each day. Registrations for this event are essential.

Escape Hunt Perth’s Escape Rooms

For those that are up for something a little spooky, Perth’s Escape Hunt has a new Escape Room that is sure to keep minds active these school holidays. As well as the newest addition, The Lost Treasure of Captain Jack Black, Escape Hunt Perth has two other thrilling escape rooms: Poisoning in the Cafe and Escape from the Mine. In teams of 2 to 6 people, groups must work together to find clues, solve puzzles and riddles before their time is up. Ages 6 and up can participate in this mysterious adventure.

Arts Season 2018

For it’s third annual season, Arts Season 2018 will be bigger and better than ever with a jam-packed month-long showcase of arts across the region. Appealing to all artistic palates, the Arts Season has a huge amount of child-friendly events alongside sustainability fairs, street parties and musical concerts. With cartooning, stencilling, writing and crafting workshops and storytelling, the kids will have mountains of fun.

Mega Adventure Aerial Park

For some thrilling activities in the sun, look no further than the Mega Adventure Aerial Park just across the road from West Beach. With seventy aerial obstacles, this adventure park is not for the faint-hearted. Likening their obstacles to playing tennis or rowing a boat in the sky, Mega Adventure Aerial Park promises a stimulating and super-fun experience. For those wanting to watch on, the Mega Walk is a harness-free viewing platform that provides unmatched views of West Beach. These school holidays, a Mega Kids Deal will be given alongside any Mega ticket purchased. Neo Teen Takeover – Free

Teens will be holding onto the reins of creativity at Adelaide’s Art Gallery for an exclusive one-day event – Neo. After the gallery closes up, teens from ages 13 to 17 can take part in art making, workshops, snacks, giveaways, live music and a huge dance party. For a little inspiration and a lot of fun, make sure you don’t miss out on this one-chance event.

Dinosaur Revolution

Hoping to make a discovery these school holidays? The South Australian Museum is the perfect place to get those inquisitive minds flowing. Dinosaur Revolution is not just a visual experience but a tactile one that allows kids to dig for their own fossils, feel fossil and dinosaur eggs’ casts and get up close and personal with three roaming animatronic dinosaurs. Taking you through the history of dinosaurs and their dramatic evolution after an asteroid hit Earth 66 million years ago, Dinosaur Revolution is above all else, a learning experience fit for all ages. After purchasing a ticket for the exhibition, the rest of the South Australian Museum’s displays are completely free.

Kid’s Pantry School Holidays Cooking Classes

If you want some enthusiastic helping hands in the kitchen these school holidays, Kid’s Pantry in Deakin will be holding multiple cooking classes between April 16 and 27. From easy family dinner recipes like nachos, ricotta gnocchi, sweet and sour pork, Asian noodle salad and butter chicken to decadent desserts like chocolate croissants, orange and poppyseed cake, minty chocolate mousse or chocolate ganache cake, Kid’s Pantry have got every child’s tastebuds covered.

NFSA Kids

For those that are movie-obsessed and want nothing more than to sit watching the school holiday’s film releases, the National Film and Sound Archive in Acton has something to get your kids off the couch. Nine film screenings including Mary Poppins, Yellow Submarine, Fantasia, The Lego Movie and King Kong and immersive activities including a Frozen sing-a-long and live sound technology demonstrations will be open to the public throughout April 16 to 27.
