Unfortunately we can’t all make it to Melbourne to watch the horses race, but we think these venues are the next best thing.

El Camino will be having a fiesta on November 7, with a variety of packages and plenty of tequila to go around. The Premium Bar Menu spans from 12pm-4pm and features a bar package of white and red wine, prosecco, margaritas and beer with a selection of roving canapes including quesadillas, wings, tacos and nachos. A build-your-own-taco station will be set up from 2pm-4pm to help you make the taco of your wildest dreams. For dessert, everyone’s favourite churros with salted caramel will be making the rounds. The Cactus Bar Menu is available from 12pm-3pm and features all our Mexican favourites. Prizes will be given to the best dressed, pinatas will get you hyped for the 3pm race and free chips and salsa will be offered all day long. Doors open at 10:30am.

Your favourite Italian joint is offering a $60 per person 3-course lunch on November 7. Antipasti misto boards with Italian cheeses, arancini, salumi, olives and focaccia will get you and your mates off to a running start, with a choice of salads (tuscan chicken or fratelli house), pastas (penne with lamb ragu and rosemary or ravioli with spinach, ricotta and sugo) and pizza (diavola or a classic margherita) to follow. Satisfying your dolce tooth is Fratelli’s signature banoffee pie. Bottomless beverages will get you ready for racing, with beer and wine packages for $29 per person and an extra $39 per person for negronis, espresso martinis and prosecco. Make sure you dress to impress because prizes will be on offer!

Justin Hemmes’ latest venture is his purchase of the Tennyson Hotel’s drive-thru bottle shop which has since been transformed into a trendy, makeshift Italian restaurant and bar by the name of Mr. Liquor’s Dirty Italian Disco. Its cartoonish aesthetic, playful graphics and cheeky theme will be the perfect place to reign in the horses. A full a la carte menu will be available, as well as good views of the big screen. Entry is free and walk-ins are welcome throughout the day – make this the place to tell all your friends about!

On Melbourne Cup Day, the Dolphin will be teaming up with Bondi Iceberg’s Maurice Terzini to bring some of the city’s finest food. A ticket to The Dolphin on Melbourne Cup Day includes a huge menu of oysters “vino-grette”, porchetta panini, smoked pork hock, olive mortadella, mushroom and pecorino arancini and so much more. Bartender extraordinaires Lenny Opai and Robbie Dodds will be creating masterful cocktails such as the Delfino G&T, Bergamot Spritz No. 8 and the Delfino Blood Orange Screwdriver. Tickets start at $180 per person and include food, drinks and live entertainment.

Merivale will once again be putting it on for this year’s Melbourne Cup. The Coogee Pavilion’s Rooftop will have plenty of roving canapes to keep you going until the 3pm race. The Rooftop has a panoramic perspective of the charming Coogee Beach and will surely be a relaxed spot to see through the most exciting race day in the country. Downstairs has sold out, but Rooftop tickets are still available for $75 per person.
