Top 5 Design Trends of 2019
2019: New year, new…design trends?
We think yes! 2019 is the year of the sustainable and the statement. Goodbye millennial pink, hello eco-friendly furniture and bold colours.
Timber, specifically lighter tones, is very much on trend for this new year. The types of timber that have lighter hues, such as Cypress Pine, Oregon and Victorian Ash work well as the base to a space or for a statement piece, such as stairs or a coffee table. The pale tones do not dominate the room but make for a cool and modern atmosphere, also making it easy to work with other light pieces, such as the couch or the sink, or incorporate bold colours, such as introducing bright green plants.
It has been around for a while now, but this year especially will see more and more people being environmentally conscious and friendly. Being proactive about finding out where something has been sourced from and made, using more recycled objects and becoming more plastic free will dominate in 2019, and we are too excited.
3. Bold Black
Bold black invokes a sense of indulgence and decadence. A completely different end of the spectrum from some of the other trends, the bold black is a statement which also can work as the centerpiece of the design or simply as an accent.
Biophilia refers to an innate and genetically determined affinity of human beings with the natural world. This translates to homeware and design through use of natural and organic materials, such as wood, stone, paper and clay. Elements that will ground you with the earth and bring the outside in.
5. Living Coral
Pantone’s colour of the year was announced as ‘Living Coral,’ and we sure can see why. Described as “sociable and spirited,” the colour is warm and playful, and will work in many different types of houses and designs. Much like Bold Black, it can be used to accent other designs or stand as the main color itself.
