World Fries Day is almost upon us, t-minus 6 hours.
Like the good little chippy-munchers we are, and the lovely, sharing and caring community we are – we’ve come up with a list of our offices most recommend fries in Sydney. Big call.
We like to think we know our food (hopefully, considering how much of it we eat…) and we’ve been pretty careful pulling together this mother of all lists; careful not to favour the shoestring, the waffle, the fat’n’chunky or the mouth watering ‘spiced-up’.
*Please excuse any typos, we may or may not be eating fries as we type…
Kicking it off is Salsas – a mind blowing Mexican found in Bondi, Burwood and Eastgardens. Salsas offers up Mexicrinkes, crinkle cut chips with a secret blend of spices, either as they are or fully loaded with beef, cheese, salsa, jalapenos and ranch sauce. #froth
Zeus Street Greek
Zeus is no stranger to high quality food, we continuously go back for (again, and again and again). With 3 chip choices you’re spoilt, and of the 3 – we recommend all. Go nuts with Yia Yia’s loaded chips, slightly less nutty with the Feta & Oregano chips, or do our ultimate fave – the Haloumi chips.
The Stuffed Beaver
Disgustingly good, we cannot recommend the Stuffed Beavers’ Poutine more. Fries, gravy, cheese and bacon – somewhat like a heart attack on a plate. If your body can handle it, we dare you to ‘pimp your poutine’ with extra ingredients. Check out the Frickles (Deep Fried Pickles) while you’re at it!
To picture this list without Chica sort of makes us gag. It’s no surprise Manly’s king of Mexican knows how to make fries into Fries. Carne Fries are almost a weekly go to, loaded with grilled steak, cheese, guac and salsa. Vegetarians are also spoilt with the Veggie Fries, featuring black beans, cheese, guac and salsa.
The home of fresh and healthy burgers didn’t stop at making killer burgers… They continued to make some of the best fries we’ve ever tasted. The famous chunky Grill’d chips are enough on their own, but throw in the Sweet Potato and the Zucchini chips and you’ve hit the ultimate trifecta. Chuck on the sweet chilli mayo for genuine happy-food-tears.
Black Label by Burger Project
Waffle fries hold a special place in any sane humans heart. Black Label has almost beaten their own burgers with their Waffle fries, a truly enjoyable eating experience we would happily part-take in daily. If that wasn’t enough, the Waffle fries are also offered in potato and sweet potato… Twice as much love.
Lets class it up a bit and introduce Botanica Vaucluse. Not the first place that comes to mind when you start thinking of World Fries Day, but once you’ve tried them you’ll never go back. Hand cut and based off a perfected recipe from 15 years work, they are perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside… What more do you want?
Damn good Sweet Potato fries are hard to come by. Sometimes they’re soggy, other times too hard, over salted, under salted or just bland. So when you do find SPF that make your heart sing, hold onto them. That’s exactly why we recommend the Beresfords’ Sweet Potato fries – our tastebuds are excited just writing about it.
Belles Hot Chicken at Tramsheds
Meet Belles Hot Chicken, home of the Old Bay Fries. We don’t really know what to tell you about these fries, but they’re seriously delicious, crinkle cut heaven and the perfect combination of crunchy and soft, while also salted and spiced to perfection.
Here you were, thinking we’d forgotten the unofficial kings of shoestring fries. Pfft. It’s no secret we love Charlies and if every meal of every day were to revolve around Charlies… we wouldn’t be sad. Their fries are the pivotal point of any CGC meal, perfectly salted, left fresh on their own or lathered in Peri Peri. Little chippies, we do love you.
