Top Five at Five – Sydney CBD
Here are our top five picks for Sydney’s best CBD happy hours.
Everyone loves a good happy hour, but spoilt for choice, you might be left wondering where to exactly to go. These days, the term ‘Happy Hour’ doesn’t just mean cheap house wine, spirits and beer, and it certainly doesn’t mean just for one hour. Instead, it’s a mix of all sorts including food and daily drink specials to entice you through the doors of your favourite establishment.
Like it’s cousin Barrafina just up the road, The Wolf boasts an extensive and ever-changing range of international wines. And although at $7 a glass it might not seem like the cheapest price for a wine during happy hour, if you’re one to distinguish your wine by region rather than just by colour, The Wolf will be right up your alley. They also offer $5 beers and $10 cocktails between 5-7pm too.
El Loco at Slip Inn
Doing things a little differently, El Loco brings out the crazy in all of us with the Loco Hour. With $5 Coronas and Cerveza Pacificos, house spirits and wines, it’s perfect for a midweek or Friday fiesta. Combined with a colourful courtyard and a regular line-up of DJs, it’ll keep both your mouth and wallet happy.
The Morrison’s Happy Hour one is a of our more stylish picks. You’ll be easily tempted with $5 house beers, wines and spirits everyday of the week from 5-7pm. Plus from 6-7pm every Wednesday at their terrace Oyster Bar they have freshly shucked oysters at $1 a pop. And last but certainly not least is the $10 cocktails and $10 burgers on offer in the Parlour Bar all day, every day.
This fun and funky basement bar will have you feeling as if you’re ina New York speakeasy. The Rabbit Hole serves up $5 beers and house wines to quench your after-work thirst between 4:30pm-6pm. And we highly recommend giving the hand cut chips with parmesan and truffle ($12) a go – they’re too hard to say no to!
The Royal George
Happy Hour at The George runs from 5-7pm and with $6 wines and $6 pints – yes you read that right, $6 pints. They also boast $1 spicy BBQ Buffalo wings! A winner with all crowds, this place features a pool table downstairs and decent lunch and dinner menu if the dollar wings aren’t for you. We recommend the Royal Burger with Angus beef, all the toppings and house made BBQ sauce ($17). You can even pick your own tunes with their Spotify Jukebox.
Okay, so we couldn’t narrow it down to just five, so we’ve added in this last one here for you as a bonus bar!
This bar in the heart of the CBD is a favourite among the suits in the area. With a range of great specials on offer throughout the week, you can’t go past Monday’s $4.50 beers, $5 house wines and $6 salt & pepper squid from 4pm-8pm. Although we can’t complain about the $12 pizzettes on Tuesdays either. And an added bonus – they’ve got DJ’s from 5pm.
