North-west of Sydney, Dural’s newest restaurant, The Vicar has recently opened and is proving a name for itself as the local place-to-be. Recently, Hunter and Bligh visited The Vicar with high hopes especially as the new opening has been greatly anticipated. When we left, we were more than satisfied from both the food and the knowledge that the restaurant experience lives up to the elegance and modernity that has been so carefully integrated into the design of the new venue.

After stepping inside, you feel a sense of traditional meets contemporary. The wide space has room to spare and has cleverly divided up the almost barn-like structure into unique spaces for different experiences. To the right of the entrance is the bar area, with high stools, tables and a lounge area in which the bar menu is served, and to the left is Wakefield’s. The restaurant has a farm to table approach with generous portion sizes. The menu boasts an abundance of fresh vegetables and herbs, well accompanied by seafood. So to say we were excited was an understatement.

To start, we ordered the pea and ricotta dip ($16) with flowers, herbs and cassava crackers which was fresh, delicious and a unique start to the meal.

Determined not to waste any time, we headed straight onto mains. The servers and waiting time between meals were both exceptional: the servers were exceedingly polite and the time between meals was just enough so that we were pleasantly surprised when it came out. For mains, we choose The Vicar House-Made French Pie ($28) with dry-aged lamb with pea and mint puree, the Jack’s Creek Wagyu Rump Cap ($40) with pickled heirloom carrot, grilled leak, pea puree and red wine jus and a side of the truffle mash potato ($14). The pie crust was crunchy and buttery while the pea and mint provided a fresh bit of contrast to the lamb while still complementing it beautifully. Where as the wagyu melted in the mouth from start to finish, basically overflowing with sensational tastes and flavours, from the carrots to the leek, each ingredient added something to the overall taste. Finally, as a side, The Truffle Mash Potato ($14) was divine and was the perfect accompaniment to the scrumptious meal. The mains exceeded our high hopes, and we were simply in foodie heaven.

After such satisfying mains, it was not hard to tempt us into dessert. The hardest decision was to choose between their dishes, thankfully we landed on the orange sorbet ($15) with candied orange and choc mint. Our favourite pick of the evening however would have to be the Textures of Vahrhona Chocolate ($18) with raspberry sorbet. The orange sorbet was fresh sweet, the perfect light dessert if you have a heavy meal. It was decadent, delicious and paired perfectly with the raspberry sorbet, this dish was extremely enjoyable and we know we’ll back for more!

Altogether, our visit to The Vicar was an enjoyable experience in which we were treated with top-notch service, tastes and a pleasant atmosphere. The large space is trendy, yet possesses a sense of intimacy, so no matter if it’s a drink with your mates, a romantic dinner for two or a large group enjoying a meal, you’ll feel more than welcome at The Vicar.
