Sydney’s Restaurant Openings in September

Sydney, get ready to eat your way through September.

Just as Sydney blossoms into the new season, it also welcomes an array of restaurant openings across town. From a dedicated wine room with over 400 drops featured on their menu, the newest Italian collaboration in Bondi, an intimate Japanese degustation hosting 10 guests at a time in Kent Street to the Kings Cross chicken takeaway that’s about to set-up shop.

Thankfully we’ve tracked down the top restaurants that are opening this September in Sydney:

Coogee Wine Room

Less than a five-minute walk from Coogee Beach, September will see the opening of Coogee Wine Room; the newest haven for wine lovers, cheese enthusiasts and everything in between. Sydneysiders, get ready for your taste buds to be excited with Coogee Wine Room’s 400+ wine list, not to mention the mouthwatering range of delicious cold meats available. Representing every wine region around the world, half of the menu is priced at less than $100 a bottle or for those who prefer a luxurious tipple, the Wine Room’s menu will also include limited edition as well as hard-to-find vintages. The Eastern Suburbs’ newest venue marries the concept of a local hub with the relaxed functionality of a European wine bar. With a capacity of 96, this intimate wine haven will also serve up a Mediterranean influenced menu featuring the likes of Sydney rock oysters, chargrilled octopus, cheese, charcuterie and even charismatic pasta dishes.


Coogee Wine Room – 222 Coogee Bay Rd, Coogee


Ciccia Bella

As Bondi’s Da Orazio’s has shut shop until late August, come September, Ciccia Bella will be reigning after a renovation and reopening. Led by Rushcutters Bay, ACME chef Mitch Orr alongside Icebergs Maurice Terzini, the duo will be working closely with The Dolphin crew to create Bondi’s newest Italian eatery. Ciccia Bella will feature a laidback pizza bar vibe, perfect for its casual location. Using a wood fire oven as their master creator for both pizza and pasta, Ciccia will centre its dishes around regional Italian cuisine which perfectly pairs their wine menu designed by Icebergs sommelier, James Hird. As for cocktail lovers, not to fret as Matt Whiley from Surry Hills’ Scout will in no doubt shake up some classics and modern twists. Opening date TBA.

Kuro Bar & Dining

Sydneysiders, if you’re looking for the newest intimate venue to enjoy a degustation, look no further than Kent Street’s Kuro opening in September. Honouring Japanese design and culture, Kuro, led by Taka Teramoto, will see two dining experiences available for guests for both lunch and dinner. The chef’s table wraps around the open kitchen and offers only 10 guests a fine dining degustation which pairs gracefully with the wine selected by sommelier Wanaka Teramoto. Visitors can expect seared wagyu tartare, warm peas with fresh stracciatella and raw squid sashimi with lemon myrtle to name a few. For a more relaxed feel, Kuro Bar & Dining led by head chef Nobu Maruyama will focus on a seasonal shared menu recreating and reimagining classic Japanese and Asian flavours. Regardless of your dining option, guests will certainly be spoilt for choice with Kuro’s signature cocktail list that includes Japanese whisky, gin, Shōchū, sake as well as Japanese draught beer.

Thirsty Bird

If the thought of leaving winter behind excites you, then we’ve got some news that may just be the highlight of 2019. Potts Point’s fried chicken oasis, Thirsty Bird, will be crossing the road to Newtown’s King Street from September onwards. Much like the Kings Cross venue, Newtown’s newest chicken shop will keep to tradition with a takeaway service featuring all of Thirsty Bird’s favourites including their original or hot & spicy southern fried chicken, their range of mouthwatering burgers as well as their impressive sides list which includes buffalo wings, loaded tater tots, sweet potato waffle fries and last but certainly not least, the waffles with maple syrup (perfect to create your own chicken and waffles). But the chicken doesn’t just stop there – there are also rumours of new dishes added to Thirsty Bird’s dessert menu later in the year.
