We released a survey to Hunter and Bligh readers in Brisbane, searching for the best Steak Frites. Based off the surveys answers, here are Brisbane’s Top 10 Steak Frites Restaurants!
The Breakfast Creek Hotel
This 124-year-old pub is an iconic fixture in Brisbane’s pub scene, and with the open air beer garden and Spanish Garden steakhouse. With twelve steak cuts to choose from, mostly sourced from South East Queensland, and plenty of sauces and sides, ‘Brekky Creek’ provides an excellent steak experience. The long wine and beer list will leave everyone satisfied, and the 400-strong rum list is well worth a look.
Moo Moo The Wine Bar and Grill
Moo Moo The Wine Bar and Grill is a sleek and modern steak restaurant, where an open kitchen displays meat dry ageing in a cabinet for all diners to see. This is on brand for the rest of the dining experience, with an incredibly extensive steak menu ranging from the signature 1 kg Wagyu Steak Rump Cap Roast, serving two to four people at $145- $175, or the more manageable $39 Rump Steak. The wine list is equally extensive, with 900 wines by the bottle and 90 by the glass.
Black Hide Steakhouse
This classy steakhouse is the self-proclaimed ‘best steakhouse in Brisbane’. The modern and inviting space is centred around the specialty open kitchen made for high-intensity, high-speed steak cooking. Meat is the star of the menu, and the angus and wagyu cuts are 100% halal certified. Each of the twelve cuts of steak is delicious and expertly cooked, served with perfectly crispy potatoes and your choice of sauce.
Cha Cha Char Wine Bar and Grill
Cha Cha Char is an award-winning steak restaurant, with a warm atmosphere accented by the leather and wooden decor. The steak menu is so extensive it takes up an entire page, with over ten cuts of pasture and grain fed beef, cooked to perfection over a wood fired grill. Prices range from $38 – $110, with the range of steaks sure to please all meat eaters. With a 23-page drinks menu, you are spoiled for choice for wines and cocktails to accompany your steak.
The Boatshed Restaurant is an elegant and scenic way to enjoy a meal of Steak Frites. The steak menu is long and varied, with a choice of fifteen steaks, some dry-aged for 40 days in the restaurants meat cellar. Seven ‘steak toppers’, including prawns and oysters, can be added for a more decadent meal, as well as the classic sauces and sides. The whiskey bar is worth a visit for a pre or post-steak drink.
Alchemy Restaurant and Bar
Alchemy provides some of the best river-front dining Brisbane has to offer, set in a warm and sophisticated indoor-outdoor venue. The Grill menu walks the line of classic and contemporary, including Wagyu, dry-aged and pasture fed cuts. The food is complemented by a long wine list with excellent Australian, New Zealand and European options by the glass or bottle.
Port Office Hotel
After a refurbishment in 2017, the Port Office Hotel has been transformed to a modern and elegant gastro pub, with a timeless French feel. The grill menu serves up delicious classic fillet, sirloin and wagyu cuts served with specific sides and your choice of sauce, with amazing thin cut frites. The drinks menu is a stand out, with 24 beers on tap, Australian and European wines and sixteen cocktails inspired by different parts of the world.
Vintaged Bar and Grill
Don’t let the sleek, glamorous setting of Vintaged fool you, the food is humble, hearty and delicious. The grain and grass fed cuts are delicious, served with authentic and fresh sides and sauces. In the centre of the restaurant lies a wine collection encased in glass. With over 1,000 bottles and 120 labels there is sure to be a wine for everyone.
The ridiculously warm and cosy Walter’s steakhouse, with its red-leather booths and marble topped tables, is the perfect setting for a hearty Steak Frites. The house specialty, a $110 grain-fed, dry-aged T-bone is the main draw. Have your steak accompanied by retro entrees, such as Prawn cocktails or Rockefeller Oysters, and your choice of dry, wet or dirty martinis or wine from the extensive list.
Kingsleys Steak & Crabhouse
Serving local food and wines in a sophisticated yet laid back environment with stunning river views, Kingsleys is worth a visit. The ten options of steak are all cooked to perfection by the kitchen and served with your choice of classic sauces and sides. The frites are served with a delicious house-made smoky tomato sauce. The fresh cocktails and local wines are the highlight of the long drinks menu.
