Think Miami meets Paris meets underground den.
Pelicano, Double Bay – The ultimate swanky, intimate and decadent restaurant and bar. Oh, and did we mention it also turns into a mini European inspired club?
For the perfect night out you’ll need to frequent a couple of venues to ensure you meet all the evening staples: 1. A delicious meal, 2.Extraordinary cocktails, 3. Quiet enough for great conversation, 4. Great music and a pumping dance floor.
But it turns out Pelicano can be your one stop shop for all things dinner, drink and dance.
Pelicano offers a small, but beautifully curated sharing menu perfect for pairing with their extensive cocktail range. Our highlight was the Slow Cooked Lamb Ribs (which literally fell off the bone and into your mouth), with a delicious and fresh chickpea, pomegranate, coriander and mint salad. You also cannot look past the Beef Fillet, succulent melt-in-your-mouth morsels sitting on a stunning bed of kipfler potatoes, al dente broccolini, veal jus and horseradish. The team have also brought back the Black Bun Peli Cheese Burger, but this time, have paired it with shoestring fries. But these aren’t just regular strips of glorious potato, they’ve been seasoned in a lemony salt that takes them to the next level. So bring along an appetite and the willingness to share.
With the food covered, you’ll need to now shift your focus to something Pelicano excels at: Cocktails.
What’s the point of going to a venue and not trying their signature drink? So, with that in mind we had two rounds of the Pelicano Martini. And we were not disappointed.
It was summer shaken in a glass: absolut elyx vodka, passion fruit puree, pomegranate syrup and mint – sweet yet refreshing. Feel like you need a little more of a pick me up? Then their Espresso Martini should be your choice of poison. The foam, creamy and thick, the coffee brewed to perfection and blended into the liquid gold that it is. Gin lovers never fear. Pelicano serve a steller Suzie’s Negroni with beefeater gin, campari, rinquinquin peche and suze!
Before you demolish too many cocktails we recommend you sit back into your comfy lounge and tilt your head towards the beautifully clad walls. With a variety of artworks, including Lichtensteins and Basquiats from the owners personal collection (boujee) the venue is a mini museum with a dash of colourful sculpture and moody upholstery.
To give their patrons the ultimate European experience, on Friday and Saturday evenings after the civilised hour of 10pm, the restaurant transforms into a designer DJ den, sprinkled with cocktail-holding, bubbly-carrying dancers.
And after a few of their decadent cocktails, it will be hard to pull yourself off the dance floor.
We also have to make a special mention to the staff, who were extremely attentive. The friendly service, great banter and brilliant hospitality made you feel at ease in the swanky designer digs. Special thanks to Mich for being our delightful host for the evening. (We love you)
