Nestled between warehouses along Canley Vale Road, Grano is described as a vintage outdoor Italian oasis. The true highlight is the food so expect everything from freshly made arancini, an expansive range of handmade pasta, woodfired pizzas, cocktails and of course, every Italian’s favourite, tiramisu. Best Burgers: Superior Burger
If you’re looking for one of Sydney’s (even Australia’s) best burgers, you’ll find it here. We present you with Superior Burger housed in Wakeley Shopping Centre. Taking over the renowned Wakeley Takeaway, since Superior’s opening late 2016, they’ve grown their expansive collection of burger creations. Inside is a combination of pink-hued walls, neon signage and an acknowledgement to the store’s past with original tiles from Wakeley Takeaway. With weekly specials, onion rings, milkshakes and not to forget their mouth-watering loaded fries, after one visit, you will soon realise that Superior Burger surely is “The Best in the West”.
Best Day Activity: Calmsley Hill City Farm
Originally known as Fairfield City Farm, today, Calmsley Hill City Farm is one of Wetherill Park’s best attractions for all ages. The land, which was originally home to the people of the Dharuk tribe, is now used as an interactive – farm attraction hosting a variety of shows and exhibits. Guests to Calmsley Hill City Farm can get up close and personal to a range of native and farmyard animals including cows, chickens, kangaroos, goats, koalas, turkeys, Indian peafowls, and horses to name a few. Not to mention, Calmsley Hill is just one of the many entrances into Western Sydney Parklands so visitors can enjoy a stroll to the park after their visit to the farm.
Best Deli: Bossley Park General Store & Deli
Opening their doors in 1953, today, almost 70 years on, Bossley Park General Store & Deli is one of Wetherill Park’s hidden gems. Nestled within Mimosa shops, Bossley Park Deli is easily described as one of western Sydney’s finest delicatessens selling a range of local and imported products including fresh cheese, cold meats, meze and other European goods including an extensive range of pasta, sweets and everything in between. If you’re looking for authentic, hard-to-find goods, you’ll be sure to find it here. Tip: be sure to try their mouth-watering pancetta, you won’t regret it!
Best Desserts: XS Espresso
Prepare yourselves, as you’re about to fall into a heavy food coma thanks to XS Espresso. Originating in the Wetherill Park Greenway Plaza, XS Espresso now cooks up a storm in North Parramatta, Prestons, Bondi and Gregory Hills. Serving an expansive range of creations from breakfast through to dinner and dessert – regardless of your time of visit it will surely be life changing, to say the least. Just how nonna makes it, Gigino’s creates it. Found in Fairfield West (we still count it as Wetherill Park), this is one of 2176’s best Italian eateries. Upon entering, guests will feel just like family with an intimate setting – the standout is, of course, the food. Out the back visitors will be transported to a bar shaking up the finest Italian and international cocktails where you can also enjoy your meal at the counter tables. As for the menu, expect everything from antipasti including arancini and calamari fritti, a range of pasta and pizza and of course, their impressive dessert (dolci) menu featuring pannacotta, crème brulee, Nutella pizza and gelato. This is one to add to your list.
Best Lookout: Moonrise Lookout
Inside Western Sydney Parklands, explorers will soon find Moonrise Lookout and Sugarloaf Ridge, one of Wetherill Park’s best lookouts. Sitting along the peak of Border Road, visitors will find a breathtaking view of Fairfield City and, if weather permits, an incredible view of Sydney’s CBD. To reach the peak, visitors can access Moonrise Lookout by walking the Sugarloaf Ridge Loop (2km) or conquering the challenging Moonrise Loop which stretches out across 6.2km. If you’re wanting a quick fix in Wetherill Park, we point you in the direction of Frank’s Original Philly Cheesesteak & Dogs – and if the sound of a Pizza Cheesesteak with melted cheese, onions, mushrooms, peppers and bolognaise sauce excites you, you’ll have a great time here. Setting up on Canley Vale Road in Wetherill Park, behind the neon signage and park benches, Frank’s is found in a little nook which serves up everything but that.
