Australia’s Top Restaurants 2018

Australia! Your actions have been noted and your favourite dining spots are ready to be announced.

The world-leading restaurant search and booking platform, Zomato, has recorded the most popular eateries in each state for 2018. This is tough work considering Aussies spent over $45 billion dining out this year!

“Australia is becoming one of the leading foodie nations around the world,” says Zomato Country Manager, Ryan Flanagan. “We enjoy dining out and we are much more adventurous and conscious around our food choices. Our data is showing a year-on-year increase in Australians choosing to dine out.”

Sydney appears to be bewitched by the Asian persuasion, with a variety of oriental goodness such as Café Cre Asion, Mr. Wong and Mappen Noodle Restaurant. The most popular on the list is Korean BBQ restaurant, Sydney Madang.

Foodie capital Melbourne is a little more diverse in its top tastes. Their list is a smorgasbord of worldly cuisines, from Italian pasta bar, Tipo 00 to Asian fusion eatery, Chin Chin. Up the top is Humble Rays with their experimental menu that playfully swings between sweet and savoury.

In Brisbane, the top spot was a brawl between XXXX Brewery Alehouse in Milton and Coffee Anthology in the CBD; with Queensland’s favourite brewery winning the battle. East Asia naturally made its mark with Happy Boy in Fortitude Valley and the CBD’s Maru Korean BBQ. Most surprisingly is that Mexican eatery Taco Bell in Annerley squeezed in at number 10.

Perth diners yearn for American cuisine, with RoyAl’s Chicken & Burgers in East Victoria Park winning the race. They also love their coffee, with LouVe in the CBD and Bayswater’s tbsp. making 2nd and 4th respectively, squishing between them the Italian eatery, Prego Restaurant.

Argo on the Parade in Norwood landed the top spot for South Australia, proving once and for all that many Adelaidians love healthy eating. Asia was not too far behind with Mandoo Korean DumplingsPeel St and Wasai Japanese Kitchen making the list after Osteria Oggi.

Tasmania topped their list with Machine Laundry Café along with The Glass HouseFranklin and Drunken Admiral. For the dessert side of things, it looks like the Honey Badger found fame in Hobart.

Zomato also compiled a list of the best newly-opened restaurants for 2018. Top spots were Spice World in Sydney; Ippudo of Melbourne; Pochana by Kinn Thai in Brisbane; Ippudo again in Perth; Bam Adelaide and Hobart’s Born in Brunswick.

With hospitality data capturing 65,000 outlets around Australia, Zomato houses the most comprehensive and representative data. The restaurant rankings arise through data analysis of Zomato’s platform on the most popular searches by Australians.
