‘S-Town’ creator Brian Reed is coming to Australia
S-Town, the seven-part podcast series created by Brian Reed, has garnered over 40 million downloads since its release in March 2017.
The non-fiction series from the team behind Serial and This American Life explores the life of John B. McLemore, a brilliant and troubled horologist living in Woodstock (“Shit Town”), Alabama.
S-Town quickly became a worldwide storytelling phenomenon, and is currently still sitting at number two on the iTunes podcast charts. However, it’s popularity is also being offset by almost equal levels of criticism for its alleged breach of journalistic ethics and negative treatment of topics such as poverty and mental health in rural America.
But now, the show’s creator and host is coming to Australia to answer all of your questions.
Reed will be hosting two talks, one in Sydney and one in Melbourne, in July this year. He’ll be discussing the creation of the podcast and its subsequent success, the social issues that form its core and, of course, its enigmatic protagonist.
While the Melbourne event at the Wheeler Centre is already sold out (for now), tickets for the Sydney talk, ‘We Need to Talk About S-Town,’ at the Sydney Opera House go on sale next Monday, May 29.
