92 years in the making, the Aussie icon has reinvented themselves with six new looks.

With Cadbury’s traditional milk blocks and marvellous creations, Arnott’s new biscuit-bit chocolate and Lindt’s paper-thin excellence range, you’d be forgiven for thinking there wasn’t any more room in the market for your chocolate craving cure. But one of Australia’s most loved confectionary brands, Darrell Lea, is back on the scene and taking the block-stakes to a whole new level. The Aussie icon has taken some of their much-loved classic products, such as Rocklea Road, Batch 37 Liquorice and Peanut Brittle, and wrapped them in smooth chocolate to make them even more delicious. And delicious they truly are, cramming in as much crunch, chunk and real marshmallow they can.

Better yet the blocks are original size, no more block shrinkage or a sparse sprinkling of teats, it’s Aussie as – rough, real and really bloody good.

Proudly made in Australia and using 100% sustainably sourced cocoa, purchase of each Darrell Lea block helps contribute towards improving the livelihoods of cocoa farming communities; lifting them out of poverty, providing education, eradicating child labour and empowering women. Your guilty ‘cheat day’ treat doesn’t need to feel so bad after all.

So what’s on offer? Six bulging blocks of chocolatey goodness: Rocklea Road, Liquorice, Peanut Brittle, Fruitier & Nuttier, Peppermint Partytime and Caramel Craving.
But how do they stack up? We took on the battle of the block and here’s how we scored the long-awaited treats.

Rocklea Road

Our rating

Rocklea Road

Already a Hunter and Bligh favourite. It’s something we already knew Darrell Lea were good at, and they made it even better. We’re talking REAL soft and giant marshmallow – no hard, tasteless little chunks, just squishy bites of pure heaven. However, for those seeking a traditional Rockyroad, you won’t find red jelly, candy or cherries here. Instead Darrell Lea’s take on the classic – marshmallow, coconut and crunchy peanut. It’s Darell-icious.

Liquorice

Our rating

Liquorice

If you’re already a liquorice fan, then this one’s for you. Tiny, but plentiful bits of chewy liquorice are tumbled through delicious creamy milk chocolate. If you’re not a regular liquorice lover, don’t be turned off, it’s not overpowering, the perfect kick in each bite.

Peppermint Partytime

Our rating

Peppermint Partytime

Think mint slice meets Aero – but with more substance. Refreshing, crispy and light, each bite is perfectly balanced between dark chocolate and peppermint. The perfect after-dinner mint.

Caramel Craving

Our rating

Caramel Craving

Another crowd favourite – a chewy caramel chunk bursting block with a butterscotch fudge flavour. We’re thrilled to see a new caramel block on the scene that is not filled with a thin caramel-like filling. Don’t expect an overpowering sickly sweet sensation – it’s perfectly balanced.

Fruitier & Nuttier

Our rating

Fruitier & Nuttier

A blissful combination of dark chocolate with a modern take on the pairing of fruit and nut. Instead of traditional sultanas and almonds, the Darrell Lea concoction sees a block crammed with cranberries, apple pieces and almonds. Don’t compare the block with your traditional fruit and nut, this block sees the almond take centre stage with hints of cranberry and apple adding a subtle sweetness.

Peanut Brittle

Our rating

Peanut Brittle

You’ll go nuts for this. Darrell Lea’s hand-crafted Peanut Brittle block sees roasted whole peanuts layered with crunchy peanut brittle elegantly combined with a milk chocolate base. Light, slightly salted and jam-packed with a peanut punch, this is set to be a family favourite.
